What is the difference between DC resistance and insulation resistance?

The DC resistance is the resistance that the component is exposed to DC, that is, the component's inherent, static resistance.

The purpose of measuring DC resistance is to check the quality of the windings or coils of electrical equipment and the integrity of the circuit, in order to discover wire breaks, joint welding, poor contact, and interturns caused by mechanical stress caused by vibration during manufacturing or operation Problems such as short circuits. In addition, when conducting a temperature rise test on a transformer, the temperature value under the corresponding load needs to be converted according to the DC resistance value under different loads.

Insulation resistance refers to the resistance corresponding to the leakage current flowing through the dielectric after applying a DC voltage to the dielectric after a certain period of time after the polarization process ends. Insulation resistance is the resistance of the insulating layer of a conductive device.

Measuring the insulation resistance of equipment is the easiest auxiliary method to check its insulation status. Megohmmeters are commonly used in the field to measure insulation resistance. Because the voltage of the megohmmeter selected is lower than the working voltage of the test object, this test is a non-destructive test, which is safe and easy to operate. From the measured insulation resistance values, various states of electrical equipment insulation can be found, such as problems such as low insulation resistance, insulation breakdown, severe thermal aging, and the like.

In short, DC resistance is a measure for solving inductive load resistance, and insulation resistance is a special tool for solving insulation strength. The general test result is that the smaller the DC resistance, the better, and the larger the insulation resistance, the better.
